Examples of my work at the VRLab. Much of our focus is on realistic avatars and environments, although some experiences are more playful - for example encouraging patients with eating disorders to handle food by feeding a cartoon animal.
VRLab at KCLVRLab Projects
Based in the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, the Virtual Reality Research Lab (VRLab) is a world-leading multidisciplinary group dedicated to research, assessment and treatments for mental health using VR technologies. A part of King's College London, where I previously worked developing elearning courseware and simulations, I was delighted to be asked to join the lab in May 2019.
As the design and implementation lead, I work with a wide range of clinical academics, neuroscientists and post-docs to translate their research requirements into functional VR applications.
The lab's focus is to create immersive social situations for participants to explore, using realistic interactions with non-player characters to evoke authentic emotional responses.
I am personally responsible for game design, development, programming and optimisation, including 3D modelling, animation and UI/UX implementation. Our workflow generally involves an iterative cycle of prototyping and user testing, with an agile approach to adding features based on evolving project requirements and research goals.
Software used: Unity / Unreal Engine / Blender / Photoshop / Motion Builder / Character Creator.
