This is the fruit of a tropical tree, originally from South America.
It is generally used as a starter in Britain, but solely as a dessert in South America.
It must be ripe before eating and should yield to light pressure on the skin.
Preparation & Cooking Methods
For a starter: Cut in half, remove the stone and serve with a vinaigrette dressing or prawn or crab salad.
For a dessert: Slice the flesh and arrange with alternate slices or grapefruit.
