Portion Control
The correct portion for fresh or dried pasta is 90 - 120g (3 - 4oz) per portion. An image showing dried assorted pasta rods
It is important to ensure that the correct portion for pasta is measured in order to avoid waste: when cooked, 90g (3oz) of dried pasta will produce 3 times its own weight (around 270g (9oz)).
Smaller quantities should be used for for starter courses or even less if used as a garnish for soups and other main dishes
Cooking Pasta
Fresh pasta varies in cooking times:
3-5 minutes for fine pasta such as noodles
8-12 minutes for cannelloni and ravioli
Cooking Times
It is important to always check the manufactures cooking times for dried pasta products.
Dried pasta needs to be cooked for a longer period of approximately 12-15 minutes.
