SALT WATER FISH - from the sea |
A)
WHITE FISH (Demersal) |
These
fish live on or near the sea bed.
They start their lives feeding on
'Plankton', then preying on crabs
and other small crustacea and later
on small fish, herrings and sprats.
|
|
They
are broken down into 2 groups:-
|
(a)
Round Cod, Haddock, Whiting, Hake,
Red and Grey Mullet, Sea Bream. |
|
(b)
Flat Dover Sole, Halibut, Turbot,
Brill, Plaice, Lemon Sole.
|
|
The
first four in Group (b) are known
in the trade as "Prime Fish"
because of the high prices they
usually command. All fish start
as round fish, then they flatten
as they develop. Also included in
this group are Skate, Ray, Dog Fish
and Conger Eel. |
Skate,
Ray and Dog Fish are members of
the Shark family and have no true
bones. |
