Blogs
Not that the world needs another blog... I use it as a scrapbook for anything I find of interest. If you're into music, films, technology or humanist politics you'll probably find plenty to keep you occupied.
The mother and father of all blogs... audio, vidz, graphics... so easy to get lost in there... superb
'A Directory of Wonderful Things' with a particular slant on freedom of expression using the internet. A good reminder that politics (with a small 'p') can be fun too. Excellent stuff.

All hosted on rapidshare I'm afraid, and of dubious legality but great if, like me, you're into Bollywood and 60s Italian soundtracks (check out Piero Piccioni's Camille 2000) or acid rock experiments (The United States of America and The Silver Apples )
There's even a copy of the Jean-Jacque Perrey album 'The in sound from way out!' which inspired the beastie boys album of the same name (and cover!)

"Interesting music from the avant-derriere end of town" from the man also responsible for the more lounge orientated realm of |X| music blog. This one's particularly recommended for lovers of all that's offbeat and experimental without delving into brashness... why do so many people equate experimental with industrial noise?
Spanish language with a house/bar lounge bent.
"Blog & Radio Show about Netaudio & Netlabels". Portuguese, I think, or Spanish?... makes it hard to know what's going on but 3 quality radioshow podcasts makes this one worth a look at. (And did I mention that they namecheck a baroquedub track on one of their download playlists?...)

This is just to good. For fans of alt-electronic experimentation - old-school and new, ambient-techno and glitch. listen and learn.
Wish I could read this Brazilian (?) music blog as it seems to give a lot of interesting background detail on its posts. Mostly 'rock' which can mean ZZ Top (booh) but also Jimi Hendrix (now you're talkin')

Spanish language music blog. Short on text descriptions but long on quality posts.
"Jazz, funk, swing, rap, hip hop, dub"... and lots of other gems from the world of music.
Indie oldies but goodies.
Can be a little bit too middle of the road to my taste but the odd gem does redeem it...
A listing of other people's posts... specifically, links to other people's unprotected 'open directories' of music and files. "There is no security on this earth; there is only opportunity"... indeed! Obviously not intended as malicious in any way rather a fascinating concept for a music blog in this age of hackers and script kiddies. Take note web masters!

No write-ups but some good Brit-Rock/Indie/Alternative and Dance posts.
From the stable stable as the excellent decoder but with more of an easy-listening agenda. Don't let that put you off though...

"This is a blogg* to share my eXcess; that which reached, touched, entertained or angered me, in general all that draws my interest and thereby transmutes my Xsistance. Eclectic music, metaphysics, (pre)history, conspiracies against humanity, the environment." Choice.
Young upstart in the 80s' revival blogs currently doing the rounds... with the usual suspects of Gary Newman and Dead or Alive but also some quality postings such as early Dif Juz and Cocteau Twins.
Spanish language rock orientated (as the name would suggest!) blog but some UK indie sneaks in too - Sex Pistols, Siouxie, Smiths... Recommended for its obsessiveness - check out the complete Doors discography which includes studio albums, live albums, boxets, bootlegs... the works.
Bit hit and miss... Marillion anyone?! :[ but worth the occasional trawl through.
Bit of a James Last obsession and strays a little too far into thrift-store tack for my own liking but like all good charity shops theres always a real gem in there... somewhere...
Russian grime... who'd have thought it?! I can't understand a word but some great dubstep posts by the likes of Burial and Kode9.

Part of the BigO online zine, you have to hunt hard for some choice and high quality bootlegs and rare live footage. Reminds me of spending my Saturday afternoons in Camden and High Street Kensington markets looking through drawers of coloured cassette tapes...
"Music for open minds"
Great eclectic French style with a hint of north Africa and plenty of quality music and mixes.
"Travel thru' space and time to another musical dimension..." and much more besides... this guy rips and shares things like the ultra rate Velvet Underground 1966 acetate - only three copies in existence, one belonging David Bowie, another currently going for US$100,000 on ebay... and then there's The Doors' 1965 Aura Studio Demos. Doesn't get much better than this!
Actually it's anything but commercial - with a varied mix of krautrock and post-punk and nice long write-ups courtesy of syndicated (ripped off?) posts.

No, not the music... well not really. An electronic music community portal with peer reviews and links to all sorts of interesting stuff.
Electronic ambience just on the right side of the new-age devide and most definitely redeemed by its invitation to open, improvised musical experimentation. I would certainly be going to the jams if only I lived in Germany...
Sutemos electronica artist who's own website has three albums available for download.
Great idea for an experimental mixtape label - all mixes should consist of 13 free or cc-licensed music. On the whole this means quality electronica and field recordings.
Net Zines
Like Wired used to be - an offbeat, hip, intelligent slant on culture, politics and art. Only ran for two issues though... So much for market forces - we get the press we deserve.
A digitised record of the Design journal for the years 1965 to 1974. Inspirational stuff.
Philip K Dick
Reggae
Really nice riddim directory and search engine. With some suitably classic dj sets in the Iman Selection offshoot website.

Nice and active forums with good advice, good links and mixtapes for download.

Legendary mixtapes from the Berlin soundsystem.

Two great VSTi's modelled on the Mini Moog and ARP2600 classics. Best freebies I think I've ever come across on the softsynth front. Highly recommended.
Great blog on all things tech-nostalgic. A great starting point into a very geeky, very anal-retentive world...
Not pretty but some great samples of vintage analogue synths and drum machines available for download.
The main site also includes electronic music compositions for download as well as some pictures of some choice studio equipment, but it's these audio snippets of modular patches which really impress. Should appeal to old school sound librarians.
Free synths, fx, samplers and composition tools. With a great slant towards experimental electronica.

Been around for years - and still classics.
More free VST plugs. Nice delay for dub.
An emulation of the Echoplex Digital Pro with Loop IV software - one for the serious techie only.
Good informative e musician's listing. Good news and blog posts, also worth searching by tags (i.e. 'effects') for a complete overview of the latest hardware and software releases.
Includes the superb Loopy Llama an emulation of the Lexicon Jamman. To my shame I still have one of those almost unused since I bought it - it just didn't come with enough default sample memory but as a PC emulation, well, skies the limit...
Not the most attractive designs but a couple of interesting additions to the ever-growing list of freebie plug-ins including Echographz and a simple but effective DJ KillSwitch emulation.
Multi Band Compressor, Side Chain Compressor, Linear Phase EQ... and all freeware. What more do you want in life?
