My thanks to everyone for the kind words, and for just stopping by.
Some bad news... The site's regularly getting hacked at the moment - I'm an easy target as I wrote the code for these pages years ago, before I knew very much about website security and before the days of easy Wordpress installations. Long and short of it is that I just don't have the time to rewrite all the code to make it secure so I've had to put things into read only mode.
It's a shame as I do like to hear from people who enjoy the music and resources on here, makes the effort put into it all worthwhile. So drop me an email at info@baroquedub.co.uk if you want to say hi.
And for those of you who enjoy tampering with other people's sites... give it a rest! I'm not exactly doing any harm. If anything, I'm trying to give something back and not asking for a thing in return. Find someone who deserves the hassle of being hacked. Peace.

Certainly love the site! Great tribute to Dub and Reggae music. You are an Oasis in the desert.
If you have the time though, I would love to get some background history on the midi riddims, some are well known others less, would love to know where they come from.

love the site and the resources a must for any reggae head, can i make a special request for the "loving pauper" riddim
I appreciate you are probably busy, but i think you will agree its a seminal riddim and a obvious gap in your superb collection.
P.S if i end up creating it mysled and wish to donate it to your site , how would i do that? what format would you want it in? i play real bass and and guitar would you accept a file that contains audio files as well? anywho peace love and pizzas
many thanks

Hi mate. Thanks for taking the time to get in touch. It's always great to hear from people who enjoy the site.
Would gladly add your 'loving pauper' contribution. I guess the idea behind those riddim resources is that they're midi - which was intended to help non-players...If you do have the time, record the audio to a click and record bass and guitar, then email me the two separate tracks. (I work in cubase so can easily work from that) Let me have as much info as possible, i.e. tempo, chords played and ideally the notes played on the bass (saves me having to transcribe it by ear)... which as I mention on the page I'm a bit hit and miss with. I'll then make the midi file from that.
btw Krazy Luv' on your Soundcloud page is a top tune.I can well see that making an appearance on one of my mixtapes :)

Hey Jerome, how's things? Fatherhood - woohoo!
I'm in Northland now at a poly and would really like to use the 801 course we put together. Open Poly pulled it down and you have the only copy as a course page. Is it possible for you to send us a backup copy? I would really appreciate it. It's for students in a remote north location with no broadband so we will use portable Moodle.

You probably already know about SubMachena, Robin Taylor-Firth and Rawle Bruce's dub project. The band is part of what Robin gets up to when he's not writing, recording or playing with Nightmares on Wax.
SubMachena just finished off a new tune which you might like to feature on your blog. It's called 'Ten Ton Dub', the Soundcloud file is here:
http://soundcloud.com/blancomusic/tentondub/s-ftUE1
You might also find the following embed code useful:
SubMachena is a BlancoMusic act, the music is not yet available for purchase, this is for preview only. SubMachena remixes of BudNubac, Guts and Gelka are available to purchase, and can also be found on George Solar's second Comfy Dub compilation, out soon.
Thanks, hope you like it.

Thanks mate, very much appreciated. It's great when someone takes the time to say thanks :)More, more, more... not enough hours in the day unfortunately! Busy with work and life.. but I am currently working on a new baroquedub EP which shouldn't be too much longer before it's ready for release. I never put something out just for the sake of it - quality rather than quantity, I always say. And of course the usual semi-regular mixtapes will keep coming out, although I'd recommend subscribing to the rss feed for automated updates: http://feeds.feedburner.com/BaroqueDubPodcasts
Stay tuned :)

I'm still very much in touch with Lee, Damon, Fly and all of the Moseley posse. P-belly's harder to get hold of these days (settling down, currently buying a house in Solihull!) although he did make an appearance at my wedding the other week which was a real treat.

Hi Jerome, greetings from Namibia. I certainly hope your absence does not mean you've moved again and that everything is back in boxes. Hey Dave,
No, I haven't moved again - I don't think I could handle that for another decade! I'm busy at work and needed a bit of a break from the mixes... as the whales say, not to find the answer but to go find my song (great quote!)... I don't want to just churn out the mixes without any sense of quality control or any sense of purpose, and for a few weeks I simply didn't have a mix in me.
Things are looking up though :) I'm about to release a couple of dubbed-up remixes of southern funk I did for the P-Theory last year, and there's a new mixtape nearing completion - one that I'm as proud of as all of the others that have preceded it - which is the way it should be!
Thanks for taking the time to get in touch and for reminding me why I do these things in the first place - for you guys!
Stay tuned, stay patient - all good things come to those who wait :)

Errrr.... "Skyscrapers?"!!! "MPU's?"... :- baroquedub is a strictly non-commercial artistic enterprise dedicated to promoting music, creativity and a humanist ethos of share-and-share alike.
In an age when the internet seems to be about nothing other than commerce it's worthwhile remembering that most of the best things in life are not just free, they're impossible to put a value on because they're priceless: love, peace and freedom.

Oh yes, I'm always happy to promote good music and this comes highly recommended.
Baroquedub regulars will already know that imho dubstep's in danger of going down the same 'by numbers' route as Jungle took when it morphed into Drum'n'Bass... but there's real quality here, and creativity.

great blog btw. great pics, great shares. Highly recommended to one and all: http://matsuli.blogspot.com/
The closest I've come to a taste of Africa was Rokia Traore's recent London gig... having reinvented an acoustic approach to Malian music in the past, the lady's found the blues in the most profoundly rocking Led Zep fashion... I truly had an epiphany. And what a bass player she had with her. Blinding!

Thanks for the kind thoughts, Chris. Much appreciated.
Lots has been going on - not least moving house and work getting far too hectic... I also lost a ton of music with the death of two hard-drives. Lesson learned the hard way - don't back-up your files to two hard-disks purchased at the same time - when they fail, they're likely to go at the same time...!
I've just got to the end of all my DIY and unpacking of boxes and finally getting creative again - I've been working on some dubbed out southern funk mixes for friends the P-Theory (which I hope to stream or release on this site with the band's permission) and I've finally started on a couple of new mixtapes which are way too long overdue.
So stay tuned, don't despair. Service will be resumed in time for xmas and all should be back to normal in 2009.

aahh... sorry mate! I've very recently moved house and been far too busy unpacking boxes to get down to a new mix. And then there's work which seems to be taking over my life at the moment :|
But hang on in there, I've recently started thinking about a new mix - listening to new tunes and old favourites... it hopefully shouldn't be too much longer, with an estimated release of early September...
Anyone not already signed up to the (very infrequent) mailing list should do so - I'll fire off a message to everyone when the mix is done.

Hie Jerome, Thanks for your laud. It was a pleasure for me to work with the vinyl stuff again. Some of the records werent touch for about 10 years. (since we ran the Berlin Dub Club in the mid-nineties). By the way: the Opening Party was a success. We had a lot of fun, having a show in a combination like in the "old days". Most of the audience never heard us before (the were to young), but they danced until the daybreak.
Best regards, Switch Docta
P.S.: I listend to your your last 2 mixes this week on the way to my work and back. I love your uncopromising way to mix the styles and genres (always with at least one of my all time favourites e.g. "Kitchen at Partys"). Keep rocking!

I use Ableton Live - which is a real cheat for beat mixing and as it's not done in real time I get to try various things out without having to restart from the start of the set if I make a mistake or don't like something... not at all like using decks! But my aim is to create as smooth a musical journey as possible - not a DJ performance. That's why I call them mixtapes rather than DJ sets (or mixes) - it's getting back to the old school music compilations I use to make using dual cassette decks (if you're old enough to remember those :)
btw I don't always use Live's Warp function - the recent ska mixtape is done entirely without using any audio time stretching - just very careful placement and editing of the audio. I didn't want to compromise the natural groove and live feel of those tracks by making them conform to a rigid bpm.
Also I use a lot of editing - sometimes repeating parts of a tracks to make it blend more smoothly with the ones before and after, sometimes also with additional effects like reverb or delay to blend even more.
And finally, if I'm time stretching, I also use a lot of automation on the master tempo so that you don't end up with a mixtape at just one single tempo. I use subtle changes during tracks to have smooth changes in speed.
Hope that answers your question :) glad you're enjoying the music.

hi!
thanks for puttin up all those riddims....really nice resource...btw the bababoom you have is , i beleive, actually the instrumental used in shine & kris by shabba ranks, which is a version of "general" .
also, your real rock is real neat in that different all black key, and your dub organiser sounds more like the real rock in its original key...
i did the bababoom with the horns harmonies recently if you want it...i got a few others if you looking for more riddims to put up here..
one love!

Hi there,
Wow, great work to compile all these riddims.
It's been trotting in my mind to produce "modern" versions of classic riddims. The one question I always had is: what about the rights on these riddims? Are there rights like on every other song? I find it so confusing that there are countless versions and interpretations of the same musical phrases. Maybe you can help me shed some light? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello! Just recently discovered your site and I must say: wow! Dub seemed to be a music style that somehow skipped my attention, but your mixes are truly a good way to explore the genre! Thx for that! Are there cuesheets available for mix 5? That would help me finding out who's who.
Greetings from Guido

Hi, thanks for the message, I deleted the French dub mix ages ago. But I now have my own hosting, im trying to get a copy of the original mix from my friend who is current in New Zealand, so its a diffiicult. I will let you know when I get it back and upload it.
Respects for the wicked mixes too!
