About us
The Virtual Clinic
Welcome to the project website for the Virtual Clinic. We are delighted to announce the recent acquisition of funding from the South West London Academic Network (SWAN) in the form of an award for Innovation in Education and Research Technologies.
The Virtual Clinic is being developed as a teaching and learning resource for St George's University of London, Kingston University and Royal Holloway University of London, for their BSc Biomedical Informatics and Foundation Degree in Health Informatics. Our aims are to research and build an immersive and engaging interface for contextualised learning activities, embedding rich media elements within a virtual GP practice.
Phase 1 of the project consists of a comprehensive evaluation of the most effective visual representation, and technologies, for this online environment. Initially identifying a maximum of 3 interface designs, these will be developed into functional prototypes for comparison and appraisal. Subsequent work phases will then pursue the development of the chosen prototype into a fully-realised environment.
Finding your way around this website
The news and documentation sections hold details of key events, project scope and meeting notes. With team members spread across three institutions (St George's University of London, Kingston University and Royal Holloway) this website is crucial in keeping all stakeholders informed and connected. Find out about the project team in contacts.
Demos of each of our key prototypes will be made available as they are developed in order to foster a sense of ownership for key academic staff helping to develop project resources. By making these publicly available we also hope to inspire others to explore the concept of the virtual space in teaching and learning.
For those interested in our research, the links section provides a list of useful web resources relevant to the project. Some relate to technical production issues whilst others are existing exemplars which have inspired or informed our work.
Please sign-up for project updates if you wish to be kept informed of developments and leave us comments or bug reports using the feedback form provided.
