The Learning Bank has conducted a review of freely available content which involved a vast search of the world wide web looking for suitable educational materials in the curriculum areas of Study Skills, Catering and Marketing.
This work will contribute to the overall aims of the X4L Learning Bank project to enable the sharing of electronic learning materials to the education sector through national repositories.
A great deal of time and effort has been dedicated to the huge task of discovering and rating resources. A sizeable list of web resources have been collated for the particular subject areas and a methodology for the review has also been produced. A detailed report outlining the availability and appropriateness of freely available educational content for the particular subject areas on the web has been produced.
Overall the team found 998 resources on the web that were relevant to the Project’s specific areas within Marketing and Catering. Resources found were of varying educational and overall quality and judging this was an important part of the review process.
All of the resources were reviewed and entered into a database. The data collected from the review will be used to inform the next stage of the Project, which will involve investigating issues of copyright and how the resources can be reused and repurposed by the team and tutors for teaching and learning.
